Hearing the Holy Spirit Speak to You

July 19, 2026 |
| Tunde Kikiowo

This sermon focuses on the following key points:

🧭 The Spirit as Guide
The Spirit of truth guides us into all truth, speaking only what He hears from the Father and revealing things to come (John 16:13). God teaches us to profit and leads us in the way we should go (Isaiah 48:17). Faith begins where the will of God is known.

🤫 Quietness and Stillness
Be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). In quietness and trust shall be your strength (Isaiah 30:15)—stopping the striving and anxiety so you can hear His still, small voice.

đź“– Laboring in the Word
Those who labor in the word and doctrine are counted worthy of honor (1 Timothy 5:17). As newborn babes, we must desire the pure milk of the word to grow (1 Peter 2:2), for the diligent will rule while the lazy fall into forced labor (Proverbs 12:24).

🤝 Divine Counsel
Wise guidance and an abundance of counselors bring victory in the battles of life (Proverbs 24:6). Moses’ ministry was preserved through the wise counsel of Jethro (Exodus 18:14-16).

🌌 Signs, Dreams, and Circumstances
The heavens declare the glory of God, and He can speak through signs and circumstances in your environment (Psalm 19:1). Peter saw an open vision (Acts 12) and Paul received a vision at night (Acts 16:9)—though this remains a secondary method of confirmation.

đź’“ Inner Witness and Conviction
The Spirit stopped Paul from preaching in a region, showing that God’s guidance may sometimes forbid the seemingly obvious (Acts 16:6-7). The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16).

🗣️ Confirmation Through Conversation and Spiritual Gifts
God is present even in casual conversations, recording the words of those who fear Him (Malachi 3:16). The Spirit also speaks through utterance gifts—words of knowledge, wisdom, and prophecy (1 Corinthians 12:7-10)—though these must confirm what is already known in your spirit through a deep, abiding relationship with Him.

âś… Discernment, Humility, and Obedience
Whatever you hear must align with God’s word. Cultivate discernment, meditate on scripture, maintain a life of prayer, remain teachable, and obey what He tells you—for if you love Him, you will keep His commandments (John 14:15).

đź’ˇ God speaks in many ways, but all of them lead you back to His word and a deeper relationship with Him. Practice stillness, study diligently, seek wise counsel, and walk in obedience to hear Him clearly.
