Meditating on God’s Word

July 26, 2026 |
| Kemi Kikiowo

The minister delivers a message on Meditating on God’s Word, reminding us that true meditation is not emptying the mind but filling it with Scripture until it takes root in us. This sermon focuses on the following key points:

🍊 What Meditation Really Is
Everyone meditates—either on negative things like worry and fear, or on positive things like God’s word. Meditating on God’s word is NOT free thinking, abstract travel, or emptying your mind; it is actually putting His word in us. It’s like squeezing the juice out of an orange—savoring, chewing, and pondering the scripture slowly to draw out its treasure (Psalm 1:1-3, Joshua 1:8, 1 Timothy 4:13-16).

⚔️ A Lifelong Weapon
Meditation is a lifelong weapon, thinking through Scripture to find answers for the real concerns of our lives (Psalm 119:97-100, John 15:7). Elijah, overwhelmed and searching for answers, encountered God not in the storm but through a still small voice that came through stillness (1 Kings 19:12).

🌄 Examples of Seeking Answers Through Stillness
Jesus withdrew to a mountain to pray at dawn (Luke 6:12-13) and to talk with God after a busy day (Matthew 14:23). The prodigal son found his way to freedom (Luke 15:11-32), and Isaac went out to meditate in the field where he saw Rebekah (Genesis 24:63)—meditation leads us to a way out of every predicament (2 Corinthians 10:4).

🛡️ Meditation Guards Against Sin
Hiding and meditating on God’s word in our hearts prevents us from sinning against Him (Psalm 119:11). Come, let us reason together with the Lord (Isaiah 1:18), applying His word to every area—health, career, and ministry.

✨ The Benefits of Meditation
Meditation brings deeper understanding of God’s word, revelation, solutions to problems, and answers to life’s questions. It helps us live righteously in the fear of God, improves our prayer life, and builds our faith.

📝 How to Meditate
Pray for God to reveal a scripture to focus on, and separate yourself to do this (Proverbs 18:1). Quietly ponder the scripture, read it aloud, memorize and recite it, write it down, and get curious about the author’s perspective. Read it before and after for better understanding, let your mind linger on it, and be intentional about making time to do it.
