Walking In Love

October 12, 2025 |
| Tunde Kikiowo

The minister delivers a powerful message on Walking in Love, reminding us that love is the greatest of all the fruits of the Spirit and the foundation of true Christian living. This sermon focuses on the following key points:

🌈 The Holy Spirit & the Fruits
The Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out, producing Godward fruits (Love, Joy, Peace), inward fruits, and outward fruits in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). Love is listed first because it is the root from which all the other fruits grow and the clearest expression of God’s nature in us.

❤️ Understanding God’s Kind of Love
There are different types of love:

  • Storge – family love, natural affection in families.

  • Phileo – friendship love, marked by closeness and mutual respect.

  • Agape – God’s kind of love: selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional, the love shown in John 3:16.
Agape is not just an emotion; it is a fruit of the Spirit and the very nature of God expressed through us.

📜 Love: The Great Commandment
Jesus calls love a new commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34-35). This love is intentional, practical, and sacrificial. We first love God, and in His love we are secure, knowing that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35-39). From this place of security, we are empowered to love others.

🤝 Love in Action
Love is not passive; it is active and visible. True love is patient, kind, not proud, not self-seeking (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). To “walk in love” means to:

  • Put others’ needs before your own.

  • Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.

  • Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40).
God rewards those who set their love upon Him (Psalm 91:14-16), and He expects us to bless, not curse, those made in His image.

🔥 Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Loving difficult people is not natural; it is supernatural. The Holy Spirit empowers us to love beyond our feelings. Like Paul described the struggle of the flesh in Romans 7, we overcome by yielding to the Spirit and allowing Him to direct our inner man. Declare it: “I choose to live in love.”

🌿 Love, Unity & Holiness
Love binds everything together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:14). A loving church is a united church, but love is not blind permissiveness. Sometimes love corrects and disciplines to save a soul (2 John 1:5-8). Our love must grow in knowledge and discernment so we do not tolerate attitudes and behaviours that destroy the community of faith.

🚗 Love: The Engine of Faith
Faith works through love (Galatians 5:6). A picture was given: faith is the body of the car, love is the engine. When you love, you “turn up the game” of life. Acts of love—praying for others, helping classmates, coworkers, siblings—can be the missing seed for your next breakthrough. Abraham showed love and hospitality to strangers and stepped into a miracle.

🛡️ Protect Your Love Walk
The greatest gift you can give yourself is to protect the flow of God’s presence by guarding your heart from offence and strife. Decide ahead of time to forgive. Jesus says, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you…” (Matthew 5:44). Strife hinders answered prayers, as seen in Abraham’s choice to avoid strife (Genesis 13:8) and in the warning to husbands in 1 Peter 3:7. Walk away from competitive, toxic environments; protect your love walk at all costs.

💡 Love is not just a feeling; it is your lifestyle, your assignment, and your greatest witness to the world. Walk in love, and doors will open, prayers will be answered, and Christ will be revealed through you. 💖
